We get a lot of questions around the role that underfloor heating and radiators play.
You can either have 100% of your heating coming from an underfloor heating system, or you can use it alongside your existing radiators.
Most people decide to have underfloor heating in some rooms and radiators in the other, based on where they are extending or renovating their home.
Commonly, underfloor heating is used on the ground floor and bathrooms, with radiators remaining in the bedrooms.
So how does underfloor heating compare to radiators?
Let’s start with the positives:
Energy efficiency:
Underfloor heating is more energy efficient. Compared to a radiator, a lot less energy is required to heat a room. Cold spots are also avoided with the use of underfloor heating, as the heat rising from the floor will naturally heat the room.
Increased property value:
Underfloor heating is an extremely desirable feature for many home buyers, so when the time comes to sell your house, you will find that having underfloor heating can help increase your property’s value.
Safety:
If you have children in the home (or clumsy adults!), underfloor heating is much safer than running radiators. Underfloor heating completely eliminates the risk of burns and unwelcome knocks on the corner of the radiator.
Maintenance:
After you install underfloor heating, it will need very little maintenance. Often less maintenance than radiators, with guarantees lasting up to a lifetime.
So, what are the cons?
Initial cost:
The initial cost of replacing radiators with underfloor heating as a standalone project may be high. However, costs can be kept down if you were to implement underfloor heating into your renovation or re-tiling plans.
The initial cost of installing electric underfloor heating will be cheaper than water underfloor heating. However we have cost effective options for both!
Heating time:
An underfloor heating system can take longer to heat up than radiators. But this can often go unobserved with the use of smart thermostats. Allowing you to set timers and control your heating from your smartphone.
